내 사랑 (My Love) – Lee Hi (이하이)
Singlehandedly one of the most famous OSTs for Moon Lovers, not only because of the scenes it was used in, but because Lee Hi showcases her absolutely stunning vocal range with a stripped back instrumental. It’s hard to believe such a petite singer could belt out such an incredible voice.
Remember love you
I love you
I believed it was love
I called it destiny
The piano and string instruments are so faint and calming, that it could almost be an acoustic, though saying this, the dramatic effect isn’t lost from this OST. It manages to allow Lee Hi’s voice to shine and add depth of emotional to the scenes it was used alongside.
달의 연인 – 보보경심 려 OST Part 3 아이오아이 (I.O.I) – 사랑해 기억해 (I Love You, I Remember You)
With the popular idol band seeming to disband in the next few months, after being grouped together from a range of agencies, the girls were even able to record an OST for Moon Lovers in a short space of a year.
When I shout out that I love you every day
When I call out your name every day
I remember the moments you stood in front of me
I think of them, I think of them, I think of them
Starting off with a catchy drum beat, you’d be surprised in thinking it was a original soundtrack for a period drama, but this Kdrama was unlike any historical one. With the main focus being the past, a lot of eclectic OSTs were vital, mainly to draw the audience back to the fact that IU was from the modern era and learning to live in the Joseon dynasty. As the drama evolved and the character moulded into the life of Hae-Soo, the OSTs were important to keep it grounded that there was a modern element running through it too.
달의 연인 – 보보경심 려 OST Part 4 다비치 (DAVICHI) – 그대를 잊는다는 건 (Forgetting You)
The dynamic duo of OSTs have done it again, well known for original soundtracks for the likes of Descendants of the Sun and It’s Okay, That’s Love, Davichi’s Forgetting You is a slow, sentimental OST, a lot like Lee Hi’s, the instrumental is stripped back to focus on their vocals.
Is such a painful thing
Feelings that can’t be emptied
Is such a sad thing
With absolutely breathtaking scenery in this drama, this was one of the OSTs that complimented it so well, with a sweet instrumental and dramatic vocals to match. All the characters in Moon Lovers evolve in some way or another, whether it be from evil to good, from childlike to brave and this OST is able to depict both the cute scenes and the sensitive ones. An unusual, but interesting concept, one that works in showcasing a range of emotions it could something OSTs of the future will take on.
[달의 연인 – 보보경심 려 OST Part 1] 첸, 백현, 시우민 (EXO) – 너를 위해 MV
The most famous, if not the staple soundtrack of Moon Lovers it’s not surprising that For You did so well! As the editors favourite pick of the week it couldn’t be left out! Used in many of the teasers and one of more famous scenes in the drama, the song was the beginning of another EXO unit group (lest we forget that there was an EXOK and EXOM once upon a time).
But I don’t knowWhen did you start living in my heart?I don’t knowThe reason my heart flutters when I see you.
Baekhyun, Xiumin and Chen began their sub unit with an OST, rather than a single, a treat within itself and all three vocalists mould together to form a breathtaking original soundtrack. It is also poignant as Baekhyun is a part of the stella cast that delighted audiences of Moon Lovers!
