The earliest glimmers of summer have arrived in Korea and we are pretty much halfway through the year already! Can you believe it? This year is moving forward so quickly! There’s always exciting things to see and do in Korea, and we are so excited to share some of those with you! Let’s get started.
Donggang International Photo Festival
Dates: 14th of June – 21st of September.
Location: DongGang Museum of Photography and nearby outdoor exhibition spaces.
Admission: Individuals – Adults 2,000 won / Teenagers 1,500 won / Children 1,000 won.
For those of you who love photography as much as we do this is an absolute must! Come and see the work of both professional and amateur photographers alike! There are many different exhibitions to satisfy your eyeballs, including the main exhibition, the Danggang Photography Award Exhibition, International Open Call, PhotoJournalist Exhibition, Exhibitions of local photographers, Street Installation Exhibition, and an Elementary School Photo Diary. There will also be special workshops by professionals to help you brush up on those skills!
Hansan Ramie Fabric Cultural Festival
Dates: 21st – 24th of June.
Location: Area of Hansan Ramie Fabric Hall.
For those interested in the culture and history of this wonderful nation, this festival will give you the opportunity to learn and experience the historical value of Korea’s UNESCO recognized Hansan Ramie Fabric, a traditional Korean natural fiber. Because of its quality and great desirability, this fabric used to be gifted as a regional tribute to the king. Not only will this festival allow you to learn about the history of the fabric, but you’ll also get to try weaving it yourself! The event includes an opening and closing ceremony, special singing contest, global fashion show, and many other performances as well!
Cheongdo Provence Starlight Fairytale Town Lighting Festival
Dates: 1st of January 2017 – 30th of June 2018.
Location: Cheongdo Provence Photo Land, Cheongdo-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
Admission: Ranges from about ₩6000 – ₩9000, See official website for full price listing.
Beginning early last year this festival is one of many light festivals being held all throughout the year, This one, in particular, comes to an end this month though, so if you haven’t checked it out yet, time is running out! When night falls the Cheongdo Provence Photo Land turns into a glittering fairytale town light show! People of all ages can come and take photos with their favourite fairytale characters, in specially designed photo ops, as well as enjoy the stunning light show! And for those who are feeling a little adventurous, you can even test your sense of direction in the mirror maze!
