Green Tea is often highly praised for its qualities — from its delicious taste and many uses in the culinary world, to being a great antioxidant that benefits your skin from the inside. In keeping with this month’s CAFÉ theme, we’ll be sharing a simple 4-step daily routine for your skin centered upon this renowned and popular ingredient.
As we occasionally find ourselves in a bit of a hurry, we prefer a quick and easy skincare method in the mornings; and truthfully, we believe there’s a hint of apprehension around skincare in regards to the time a single routine can take; especially if you’re a beginner in the world of Korean skincare.
The words Toner or Serum might seem slightly daunting – but fear not dears, as the following is a straightforward method that can be used daily by both novice and veteran K-Beauty fans. So — with all that in mind, the product we’re going to introduce to you is the “Innisfree Green Tea Seed Special Set”.
What’s In The Box?
Green Tea Seed Serum: a moisturising, nourishing serum designed with green tea to enhance fresh moisture deep within the skin. Made with 100% organic green tea water.
Green Tea Seed Skin: using a blend of Jeju Green Tea Extract and Green Tea Seed oil; this refreshing toner delivers antioxidants and intense hydration, to help soften skin and strengthen its natural moisture barrier. Containing 16 types of amino acids, this toner is fully equipped to bring dehydrated skin back to a dewy and clear complexion.
Essence-In-Lotion: combining the hydrating qualities of a lotion with jeju green tea extract, with the actives of a serum using green tea seed to maintain supple and nourished skin. Use to retain moisture and pump life back into dull skin.
Green Tea Seed Cream: a soft cream containing green tea seed oil and Jeju extract to help replenish tired skin, lock in moisture and leave skin with a healthy looking glow.
Note: *These products contain no animal derived ingredients but do contain alcohol.
This regime is extremely simple, and can be done in the morning and at night. We habitually use this after a shower, as that’s when your skin is typically at its most porous due to the warmth and steam. This is the best time for any product absorption, leaving skin feeling nurtured and full of moisture for the rest of your day or overnight in preparation for the morning.
Step 1: SERUM
After thoroughly cleansing in your preferred manner, pump a small amount of serum into the palm of your hand. (We use no more than two pumps as a little goes a long way). Apply appropriately on the face and neck, patting across the skin with your fingers. Gently smooth any remaining serum into the skin for better absorption.
Step 2: TONER
Next: Apply toner. Apply a maximum of four drops into your palms and press evenly into skin. We prefer to use our hands for this step but you can also use a cotton pad with toner for a more controlled application.
Helpful tip: We are fully aware that toner would normally be among the first products you apply prior to any serum. Yet Innisfree specifically instruct, and advise in the ask & answer section of the set online, that these products be used in this specific order.
Step 3: ESSENCE-IN-SKIN
Now it’s time for essence. Again, apply the necessary amount onto the face and neck using your hands to pat the lotion into the skin. Once more, one or two pumps will suffice as these products do spread generously. This can also be used as a base before makeup and before applying your sunblock as it provides an even coverage and won’t dry out skin once it’s absorbed.
Step 4: CREAM
The final step is cream. We would say this step is down to user discretion as some find a cream can be too heavy on the skin after a lotion, but trial and error is the best way to decide what your skin can handle — and what makes it unhappy. Take a small dollop of cream on a fingertip and spot once on each cheek; once on the forehead and chin, and on the tip of the nose. Begin to press cream uniformly into the skin, making sure your face is sufficiently covered. You can always add more if you find that it’s not enough to evenly distribute in this method.
Green Tea Benefits In Beauty
Green Tea has been used famously throughout the centuries for numerous health fixes. From a simple headache to a bloated belly – a cup of green tea is the rumoured cure for such ailments. Irrespective of its rather relaxing taste, it has been proven to have positive effects towards skin, as well as solving the occasional internal discomfort. Due to the many antioxidants in green tea, it’s highly renowned for healing skin and tackling the visible signs of ageing; as antioxidants fight off environmental pollutants that can damage skin cells and rapidly age skin. Furthermore, these antioxidants assist the skin in protecting against damage from UV rays.
Green Tea is also anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and features high levels of amino acids that have their own distinctive aids for the skin —detoxifying, hydrating and healing to name a few. Amazingly, green tea is suitable for ALL SKIN TYPES. No matter if you have an oily T-Zone, sensitive skin or if you’re dealing with acne — it can work wonders in different ways for us all without causing aggravation to our skin. K-Beauty brands picked up on the effectiveness of green tea for skin and subsequently, almost every brand you can think of now has a line of green tea-infused products; meaning there’s a LOT of choice out there.
