Inspired by KOREA series – 11. Jia

Story by Jia:

I found out about Korea through a conversation with my friend – this was back in 2007 and Kpop wasn’t a big thing then so I listened to some songs at the time from TVXQ but it didn’t really take off then I left it for about a year then one time I was in college looking for a song on YouTube and saw Kpop songs in the results through that I found a video about a new boy group that was debuting in SM by the name of SHINee. Interested, I looked for a livestream link of their debut and the rest as they say is history.

I liked it because ok this is gonna sound weird but around 08-09 Kpop had a fun bubbly air to it and that attracted me also I’m a language and a culture nerd at heart so that intrigued me even more. After getting into kpop I took it upon myself to study the language culture customs and traditions I became completely immersed

The thing I like most about Korean culture is its rich history and people friendliness. By that I mean that there are very few cultures where when friends get together they actually feed each other. Like they actually take food from their own plate and feed their friend. The warmness and gentleness that I have experienced when meeting Koreans is what has stayed with me the most and one day I will go to Seoul and see it for myself *fingers crossed*
