Melon Music Awards! – K-MUSIC

As this year is coming to a close, the music award season is just starting! On the 19th November, the Melon Music Awards took place. The annual event was hosted at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, where the best and biggest Korean artists gather to perform and hopefully win an award or two!

The event aims to reward idols for their hard work and efforts over the past year. In total, there are 23 awards up for grabs which can be divided into 4 categories: main, popularity, music style and the special awards.

We’ve picked our top 4 winners, one from each category, which we think really deserved the award that they won.

1.      Best New Artist Award – Blackpink

Their debut songs ‘Boombayah’ and ‘Whistle’ are such earworms and so catchy too! They did such a great job by gaining 3.3 million views in 24 hours, the new record for a debut song.

2.      Netizen Popularity Award – EXO

These boys have been working so hard lately and with all these new groups emerging, it’s really great to see them getting the attention that they deserve.

3.      Best OST – Yoon Mirae for ‘Always’ from ‘Descendants of the Sun

We absolutely loved the K-Drama ‘Descendants of the Sun’ so it’s no surprise to us that Yoon Mirae won an award for her beautiful singing voice in this moving song.

4.      Music Video Award – Red Velvet with ‘Russian Roulette’

With such a clever and visual concept, girl group Red Velvet really outdid themselves this year with ‘Russian Roulette’ and it was great to see how happy they were to receive such a big award.
