Black Pink Whistle – K-MUSIC REVIEW

Step aside 2ne1! YG Entertainment’s new girl group Blackpink has made their debut and it’s caused quite a storm across social media. Their single album Square One has already nabbed the number one spot on the Worldwide iTunes Album Chart, a feat no other girl group except Fifth Harmony has achieved. This week we have decided to review Whistle, which has already amassed over four million views!

The slow beat with the dominant whistling and clapping on top captured our interest immediately. This was then followed by member Lisa rapping the introduction in a casual, natural style which certainly appealed to us. As for the backing track, it is very simple with few instruments and sounds being used. However, this enhances the song’s quality and puts more focus on the whistling; undoubtedly a nod to the title.

Produced by the maker of the music video for Red Velvet’s Dumb Dumb Dumb, this MV is certainly unique. From the vibrant, eye-catching colours used in the sets and filters to the magical tricks which make member Ji Soo appear to levitate off the ground, this video doesn’t disappoint.

What we love about this video is how much focus is put on each of the four members to truly showcase all their talents. We have high hopes for this girl group and wish them luck for their Inkigayo showcase on August 14!
