When watching a K-Drama, it’s an inevitable fact that you’ll come across some pretty intense and sad scenes, whether it’s a breakup between the main couple, a falling out between friends or, even worse, the death of a character.
But, if you’re like us, the part that makes you get teary eyed the most is when the background music kicks in and the drama’s OST (Original Sound Track) begins playing – making these scenes even more emotional!
So have the tissue box on standby, because we’re sharing with you five of our favourite heartbreaking K-Drama OST’s!
1. And I’m Here – Goblin OST
Feels Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
First up is And I’m Here, a song that never fails to bring tears to our eyes. Although almost every track featured on the hit drama Goblin: The Great and Lonely God was amazing and emotional, there’s something about this particular song that makes us keep coming back for more (even though we always end up crying afterwards!).
Sung in English by K-Indie soloist Kim Kyung Hee, this OST takes all the raw emotion and feels of Goblin and wraps it in a perfect little bundle for us to listen to and mope over. The runner up for this spot was another Kyung Hee song entitled Stuck In Love, which he also sung for the Goblin OST.
2. When Night Falls – While You Were Sleeping OST
Feels Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Next up is When Night Falls, which was one of the first songs on the soundtrack for the popular drama While You Were Sleeping!
Almost acting as a standalone character itself, this song very much encompasses the entire theme and feel of the drama. Sung by Eddy Kim (Kim Jung-hwa), this track is guaranteed to make listener’s eyes water – even if you haven’t seen the drama yet, once you listen to this song and it’s beautiful lyrics you’ll just understand what it’s about.
3. Back In Time – The Moon That Embraces The Sun OST
Feels Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Singer LYn is notorious for her powerful OST’s, and Back In Time is no exception! Apart of the soundtrack for the 2012 historical drama The Moon That Embraces The Sun, this song is a ballad detailing the longing a person has to go back in time and be with the one they love.
Although this wasn’t the main song for the drama, in our eyes it certainly should have been! LYn’s compelling vocals paired with the meaningful lyrics make this track a timeless classic for us!
4. Blow, Wind – The Tailors OST
Feels Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥
Another song from a historical drama OST that has a place in our hearts is Blow, Wind from the K-Film The Royal Tailor!
Performed by Baek Ji Young, this song perfectly captures the energy, emotion and momentum of the film’s plot – which revolves around a talented tailor in the Joseon era who finds himself creating fashion masterpieces for the royal family.
Although The Royal Tailor may not sound as sad as the other dramas on this list, believe us when we say that Blow, Wind reveals all the betrayal, sacrifice and heartbreak that this film has and finds a way to make it beautiful.
Jaywalking – Shut Up! Flower Boy Band OST
Feels Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Last, but certainly not least, is Jaywalking – one of the two title songs from the drama Shut Up! Flower Boy Band.
Even though this track sounds more like an pop-rock song than a heartbreaking OST, when you consider the context and plot of the drama then you’ll begin to understand why we consider this song to be on the sad side.
Just so we keep this a spoiler free zone, all we’ll say is that this drama is mainly based around the friendship between six friends and how their love for each-other can’t be broken by anything – and this is what Jaywalking represents, which makes it one of our personal favourites!
