‘Final Life’ Episode One: Review!

At last, we have been graced with the first episodes of Final Life – Even If you Disappear Tomorrow – a thrilling Japanese crime drama starring Shota Matsuda and SHINee’s Taemin!

Entitled ‘Peter’, this first episode we’re introduced to a cop named Ryo Kawakubo (Matsuda), as he goes to meet his partner at an airfield. Coming from a life of hardship and poverty, Ryo has a stoic and harsh look about him that Matsuda portrays very well!

At the airfield we meet the quiet, mysterious Song Shi-On (Taemin), who look’s like he stepped right out of a manga!

According to Ryo’s partner, Shi-On is a genius who has been put under their care. But after displaying his James Bond style fighting and Sherlock-esque mind, we begin to understand that Shi-On is no ordinary man.

Through flashbacks we learn a bit more about the characters pasts. In Ryo’s we see him, as a child, carrying his younger brother through a field, before burying him in it – since Ryo grew up very poor, we’re lead to believe that his brother’s death was a result of the poverty they lived in.

Shi-On, on the other hand, seemed to grow up in a wealthy family. He attended the best medical school in the United States where he lived happily alongside his girlfriend Kana (played by Miori Takimoto).

But Shi-On’s flashbacks also showed him being tricked into partaking in a medical experiment that, consequently, made him lose his memories (noooooo!).

The first episode was only 34 minutes long, but it was still jam packed with nail-biting action, suspense, curious backstories and exceptional visuals! And even though it ended on a cliffhanger, Taemin’s OST, What’s This Feeling?, that played at the end of the drama was the perfect thing to finish with!

Matsuda and Taemin have a good chemistry and we’re keen to see what they will get up to in future episodes – as well as hear more of Taemin’s cute English~
