Strange Korean Milk Flavours

We don’t know about you, but when we go to the supermarket to buy milk, we usually only see the plain kind, and perhaps some soya milk too. Occasionally you might see chocolate or almond milk, but they’re often quite expensive. However in Korea, it’s a totally different story!

Made by the dairy company Binggrae, flavoured milk came about in the 1970s. It was all a part of a campaign by the government to get the citizens of Korea to drink more milk. However, they didn’t particularly enjoy the plain milk, so the company decided to add banana flavouring to it instead.Originally, banana milk was the only flavour that the company made. Now, other flavours such as strawberry, melon and banana light have been added to their flavoured milk range. And that’s how the flavoured milk craze was born. Since then, a lot of other brands have pushed out some interesting flavours – melon, cocoa, caramel, coffee, coconut, watermelon… you name it!
