Instagram Worthy Cafes in Seoul!

Nowadays it’s a bit of a hassle leaving the house to go and meet with friends, whether it be for brunch or a simple catch up over coffee…it takes a lot of motivation to get out of your pjs and get out of the house!

And we here at IMK reckon if you’ve gone through the effort to put an outfit together, brush your hair and actually go outside, you might as well get some decent photos of yourself while you’re out and about – since you never know when you’ll get the opportunity again.

So here are some of our favourite Instagram-worthy cafes in Seoul, where you can take pictures that you’ll actually want to post~!

Location: 37-8 Myeongdong, Jung-gu, Seoul       Opening Hours: 11AM – 11PM

First up is the Style Nanda Pink Hotel, a five storey pastel pink department store in Seoul’s biggest shopping district.

At each floor of this giant pink monstrosity you’re greeted with photo-op after photo-op, everywhere you turn is the perfect place to take a selfie or, if you’re like us, ask someone to take it for you! From chandelier lit boudoirs to rose filled bathtubs to a rooftop of pillows, the Pink Hotel is the best place to go to if you want amazingly quirky pictures.

But one of our go to photo spots is the hotel’s cafe, which makes you feel like you’re sitting in an old 1960’s American pool! And if you get peckish while trying to find the best angles, you can nibble on some fairy floss – it’s not a show stopping snack, but it definitely makes for a good picture!

Ban Bossy Boutique

Location: 17 Waoosan ro 19-22, Mapo-Gu, Seoul       Opening Hours: 12PM – 10PM (Mon-Fri) & 11AM – 10PM (Sat-Sun)

Another cafe that should be on every pastel lover’s ‘must-visit’ list is the Ban Bossy Boutique!

Named after the 2014 feminist movement Ban Bossy, which discouraged using the term ‘bossy’ to describe a woman or girl when they take on leadership roles, this cafe has a colourful tropical theme which provides you with some amazingly sweet photo opportunities – as well as some choice cupcakes too!

We recommend sitting by the large floor to ceiling windows if you want to catch the best lighting for photos, it’s also the ideal place to sit and watch all the different people go by – which we think is an entertaining way to pass the time.

If you want to see more of the Ban Bossy Boutique then take a look at this blog!]

Location: 33 Yeonhuimat-ro, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul       Opening Hours: 10AM – 11PM (Mon-Sat) & 1PM – 9PM (Sun)

Next up is another cafe that serves both delicious cupcakes and appealing photo-ops, and that’s none other than Creamfields.

From the mismatched chairs and bright flower arrangements to the hidden pop-culture references and all round Californian vibe, this place is probably the best fit for anyone who loves maintaining an aesthetic Instagram feed!

And even if after hundreds of selfies you fail to find one you’re satisfied with (and believe us, we understand the struggle…), you can always take a brilliant photo of whichever cupcake you buy at Creamfields since they are all uniquely breathtaking – and, as a bonus, they taste as good as they look too!

Even celebrities such as EXO’s Sehun, Mina from Girls Day and ASTRO have all celebrated anniversaries and birthdays with one of Creamfields cakes.

Next up is  mAgnstudio – a cafe that’s famous for it’s iconic pink staircase! Located near Singeumho Station (신금호역), this cafe is run by an advertising firm and revolves around the theme of Good Coffee, Good Space and Good People, making it a hub for any coffee-loving, photograph taking, aesthetic junkie.

Even though this cafe is a little hard to find, since it’s not located near any major shopping or food strips, it’s still a must-see for anyone who likes strawberry flavoured coffee, quiet spaces and sitting on the floor – that’s right, there are no chairs, so if you want to enjoy your drink while sitting you’ll have to pick a mat and plonk yourself down!

And although you may have to wait your turn to get a photo on the infamous pink stairs, it’s well worth it – even the members of HIGHLIGHT had to patiently wait for their go on the stairs!

Decoa Balim (데코아발림)

One of our most beloved desserts to treat ourselves to are cotton cheesecakes, especially the ones from Uncle Tetsu’s (if you haven’t tried one yet oh my word you’re missing out), but a strong competitor in the cheesecake game is a cozy Hongdae cafe called Decoa Balim!

Not only is this cafe home to an amazing variety of cheesecakes and drinks, it’s also the most quaint and rustic place ever – it makes us feel more like we’ve returned home after a long day rather than stepping into a shop!

It may not have the same vintage aesthetic as the Nada Pink Hotel, but you can bet the warm atmosphere of Decoa Balim will make any photos you take, whether it’s of yourself or the food, look sweet and inviting. And even if you don’t manage to snap some iconic Instagram pictures, the cakes (especially the Early Grey cake!!) will make up for it.

Mr. Holmes Bakehouse

If there’s one thing we crave more than cheesecake, it’s donuts! And our go to for those sugary delights is Mr. Holmes Bakehouse. Originally located in San Fransisco, this bakery extended to Seoul back in 2016 and instantly became a hit – and it doesn’t take a genius to figure out why!

Not only are these baked goods on another level, but the two floor bakehouse is decorated with black and white tiles and pink neon signs that make for an extremely aesthetically pleasing backdrop for photos – the most popular place for a photo-op is the iconic I Got Baked In Seoul sign.

If you manage to make it to Mr. Holmes Bakehouse you better mentally prepare for the sheer amount of delicious donuts, cookies and, most importantly, cruffins that the cafe has to offer – and the best part is they add new menu items regularly, so you better follow them on Instagram to get a weekly dose of baked goods on your timeline.

We can’t get enough of the matcha croissants and their infamous cruffins!

If you wanna get a better look at what Mr. Holmes Bakehouse has to offer then check out Seoul Searching – though it may make you hungry afterwards!]

Finally, the last leg of our Instagram worthy cafe journey is a cafe called Midnight in Seoul  (미드나잇 인 서울) which has become majorly popular due to it’s unique menu – which consists of cereal from all over the world!

Run by actor and former God member Yoon Gye-sang (you may recognise him from tvN’s The Good Wife and the amazing film The Bacchus Lady), this hip cafe has become a hive for youths and couples who wish to spend the evening drinking and eating a mix of different cereals, which get updated weekly. And for those who’d prefer not to have breakfast foods, there’s a cafe right next to the cereal bar that offers coffee and eye-catching deserts.

Midnight in Seoul is also known for it’s stunning interiors – with it’s quirky neon lights, colourful comic posters, blue vinyl couches and walls of different cereal, it’s the best place for a unique photo opportunity! The cafe’s online store also sells various accessories, phone cases and mugs (we personally love the This is a Bad Place for a Diet travel mug!).
