Possibly the most popular adult colouring book is the ‘Secret Garden’, as well as the other books in the series by Scottish Illustrator Johanna Basford. Inside each of these books are beautiful line drawings of patterns and objects just waiting to be given a splash of colour. Her books have sold well not only in the UK, but also in many parts of Asia as well. In Korea alone, 300,000 of Basford’s books were published and sold in 2015, most likely due to soloist IU using one in the KBS Drama ‘The Producers’.

But what’s so great about colouring books anyway, and why are they popular amongst both adults and students alike? Some say that it’s the best way to de-stress after a long day, as it’s mindless and makes time just fly by. while others think of it as an easy way to express their creativity. In any case, we love the satisfaction you get when you look at your finished masterpiece!

So what are you waiting for? Next time you’re out in town, stop by your local bookstore and pick one up for yourself so you can see what the hype is all about!
