Yeah. I think we all understand that concept pretty well. And that type of music is, to be honest, what helps to keep us going through the day. Which is why in this first (of many) Music Chart we’re giving you our top picks for the best Chill-Hype K-Music!

Enjoy~!

1. millic – Paradise

Hype Level: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

We’re kicking off this list with millic, an underground artist who’s song ‘Paradise‘ features FANXY CHILD – consisting of of Zico, Crush, Penomeco, Dean and millic himself.

This song blends the unique voices of artist so well, from millic, Penomeco and Zico’s up-tempo and consistent raps to Crush and Dean’s magical vocals – this whole song is a full course meal dishing out synth tones, seamless beats and is, without a doubt, an absolute bOP!

You can listen to ‘Paradise‘ in most places, but it’s a good idea to include this song in your ‘Driving Playlist’, if you have one~

2. TaeYang – WAKE ME UP

Chill Level:♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Hype Level: ♥ ♥ ♥

Probably one of the best chill-hype songs from this year, TaeYang’s ‘WAKE ME UP’ uses bright synth, lo-fi bass and the singer’s own smooth voice to make it into the best late night driving song ever!

And if the ending disappointed you by cutting off too suddenly, then we’ve got a handy tip; JUST KEEP IT ON REPEAT.

3. SUNMI (선미) – Gashina (가시나)

Chill Level: ♥ ♥
Hype Level: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

After taking three years make a solo comeback, the former Wonder Girls member graced us with the M/V for her song ‘Gashina‘ – an upbeat song with tropical rhythms and Sunmi’s insanely clear vocals.

This song is perfect for getting you hyped while you get ready to go out, but be careful if you’re going to listen to it while applying make up – you might get too distracted with dancing!

4. JJ Project – Coming Home

Chill Level: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Hype Level: ♥ ♥ ♥

Let’s be honest. We could’ve pretty much included the whole of Verse #2 on this chart (all the songs are so flippin good!) but that wouldn’t have been fair.

So we’ve narrowed it down and ‘Coming Home‘ is clearly the superior choice for the chill-hype category! Not only are JB and Jinyoung’s voices sensational together but the bass line is so satisfying and prominent that it will give you chills and, possibly, make you cry a bit.

This song (and every other Verse #2 song) is perfect for long commutes to work, boring bus rides and peaceful walks. Pretty much anytime you’re moving!

5. SAAY – CIRCLE (Feat. Tish Hyman)

Chill Level: ♥ ♥ ♥
Hype Level: ♥ ♥

Circle‘ is the debut song for SAAY, an R&B singer/songwriter who was formally a member of the girl group EvoL. The track has a smooth, somewhat sexy beat that has just enough drum and bass to give the song that ‘extra something’.

SAAY’s voice is so cripplingly gorgeous that you’ll have a hard time not getting goosebumps whilst listening to her~

6. NCT127 – Whiplash

Chill Level: ♥ ♥ ♥
Hype Level: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

If you want a song full of heavy bass, hiphop beats and innuendos then look no further than NCT127’s ‘Whiplash‘. This song was almost TOO hype to include but it snuck it’s way into the chart with its constant, smooth synth sounds!

Whiplash‘ is another amazing song similar to ‘Baby Don’t Like It‘  (this song is unbelievable please check it out but for your own good don’t look up the lyrics) by showcasing members Mark and Taeyong’s immense skill for rapping as well as the crystal vocals of Jaehyun.

WARNING: Do not attempt to listen to this song if you’re in a place where it would be inappropriate to dance and body-roll. We’re not kidding.

7. DΞΔN – love (Feat. Syd)

Chill Level: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Hype Level: ♥ ♥ ♥

How could we not include the Prince of the chill-hype genre? Dean is the best there is for music that you can both fall asleep AND get down to!

love‘ blends the honey-sweet raps and vocals of Dean with Syd’s (from The Internet) smokey voice to create a unique cocktail of skittering jazzy beats and harmonious melodies that we could drink up all day!

And if the music itself wasn’t enough, Dean’s lyrics at 2:16 is like the cherry on the cake that is ‘love‘ – this song can be listened to anywhere and anytime, but watch out for who’s near you when that part comes!!

8. offonoff – gold (Feat. DEAN)

Chill Level: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Hype Level: ♥

Signed under the same sub-label (HIGHGRND) as millic, offonoff is a South Korean duo that consists of producer 0channel and singer/songwriter Colde.

Their music is always relaxing to listen to and ‘gold’ is no exception. It gives us the most chill of vibes and features the always extraordinary Dean – who adds just that extras something to the songs relaxed and groovy feel.

Side-note: The above M/V is only includes a shortened part of the song, if you wanna hear ‘gold‘ in it’s full glory click HERE for the whole song.

9. AKMU – Dinosaur

Chill Level: ♥ ♥ ♥
Hype Level: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

The best thing about ‘Dinosaur‘ is that AKMU showcased their well-known, ultra individual voices by keeping the instrumentals of the song relatively simple with light, catchy EDM tones that built up to Chanhyuk’s deep, smooth voice and  Suhyun’s incredible, almost soprano, vocals!

And if you thought ‘Dinosaur’s sound wasn’t amazing enough, AKMU’s live performance of the song is beyond description – listen to it HERE to see what we mean.

You can dance to this song, drive to it and even lay down and just stare at the ceiling while it plays in the background – however you choose to listen to it, you’ll enjoy it~

10. EXO – The Eve

Chill Level: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Hype Level: ♥ ♥ ♥

Last but not least, we end on the King’s of K-Pop; EXO! ‘The Eve‘ is inspired by mid-2000’s R&B, using trap synth and beats to build up to its amazing chorus. The members vocals work in harmony together throughout the whole song and there is never a dull moment!

The Eve‘ is the perfect combination of chill and hype – but when you watch the choreo for it aLL sense of calm and ‘chill’ goes out the window…so have fun with that~!
