Top 10 K-Music Chart: March!

Although we’ve already shared with you our Top 5 ‘Bubblegum’ K-pop MV’s, there were so many songs and music videos that we didn’t get to include, so this month’s chart will include more of our favourite Bubblegum K-Pop songs that both heal our souls with their upbeat sounds AND provide us with sweet visuals in their music videos!

Enjoy~!

1. Likey by TWICE

Bubblegum Score: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

We’re kicking off this list with one of our favourite TWICE songs – LIKEY! It’s safe to say that this song got stuck in everyone’s head when it came out near the end of last year, and it’s not hard to see why – it’s sweet, light-hearted and unbelievably catchy!

The song alone is filled to the brim with full, upbeat sounds and fun, singable lyrics – such as Momo’s iconic ‘BB Cream ba ba ba, lipeustikeul ma ma ma‘ and, of course, the songs entire chorus!

Not only is the song sweet to listen to, the music video makes it even sweeter! Going with an ‘Instagram’ theme, the MV shows the members having fun together whilst taking videos and photographs, and includes their adorable ‘likey’ choreo and addictively cute hand gestures – we don’t think it’s possible for someone to resist doing the hand gestures every time the chorus comes up.

[For extra fun, check out this LIKEY parody video by some Korean Students from Oh Hyun High School – we can’t get enough of it!]

2. G.R.8.U by Vixx

Bubblegum Score: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

A year after they debuted, VIXX released their first mini album entitled Hyde, who’s title track had a dark and powerful concept that literally rocked peoples minds. Shortly after they also released a repackaged version called Jekyll – which had a much lighter concept.

G.R.8.U, the title track for Jekyll, has been one of our favourite VIXX song’s since it’s release. Not only is it a wonderful contrast to Hyde, it’s also the perfect song to listen to when you need cheering up! The song’s beat is light and motivating, the lyrics are sweet and the vocals of the members harmonise with each-other beautifully – not to mention Ravi’s refreshing rap, which brings just that little bit of edge to this, overall, cute song!

The music video is also a delight to watch, with it’s unique ‘backwards’ and ‘scrapbook’ filming, bright colours and fun to watch choreo, which was created by VIXX’s leader N! Overall this song and music video is timeless for us, and shows that boy-groups are fully capable of rocking the ‘Bubblegum’ concept too!

3. Russian Roulette by Red Velvet

Bubblegum Score: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Next up is one of Red Velvet‘s most iconic ‘Bubblegum’ songs; Russian Roulette! This song was the title track for the group’s third mini album back in 2016 and has since become a fan favourite – and with it’s abstract melody and addictive lyrics it’s not hard to see why this song is so loved!

Keeping up with Red Velvet’s quirky style, Russian Roulette’s music video is extremely aesthetic – mixing the groups well-known expressionless acting and the classic ‘school sport class’ concept. The MV also includes eye-catching visuals and somewhat menacing symbolism – which includes lockers being pushed on Seulgi and a piano almost crushing Joy and Irene!

Russian Roulette is our go to Red Velvet song and the music video is still one of our favourite ‘Bubblegum’ K-Pop MV’s – even though the members literally try to kill each-other throughout the entire video!

4. Just Right (딱 좋아) by GOT7

Bubblegum Score: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Of course we couldn’t leave out GOT7‘s iconic Just Right from this list – everything from the melody of the song to the lyrics to the MV is beyond adorable! Even though we already included it in our Top 5 Bubblegum K-Pop MV’s, we didn’t have the heart to leave it out of this months chart.

With it’s insanely catchy lyrics and youthful sound, Just Right is both fun and refreshing to listen to! With lyrics that promote self image and body positivity, this song is heartwarming and encourages all who listen to love themselves.

As for the MV – we can’t watch it without smiling! From the member’s adorable outfits and dance moves to the fact that they’re all three inches tall makes everything even more cute! SO if you’re in the mood to overdose on some sweet K-Pop concepts, look no further than Just Right!

5. Gee by Girls Generation

Bubblegum Score: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Whether you’re a longtime fan of K-Pop or only just got into it, you must have heard Gee by Girls Generation at least ONCE. Known fondly as The Nation’s Girl Group, Girls Generation (also called SNSD) and their infamous song Gee paved the way for the Bubblegum K-Pop genre – so it’s no surprise it’s featured on this month’s chart!

It’s pretty difficult not to get chills when you hear Tiffany’s iconic line at the beginning of the song, and we challenge anyone to remain still while listening to the unbelievably catchy chorus which, as a bonus, is easy to follow along to as well!

In the MV, the member’s play department store mannequins that have come to life! They then proceed to mess around in the store and eventually escape – leaving the store clerk (played by SHINee’s Minho) very confused.

6. HIDESEEK by ASTRO

Bubblegum Score: ♥ ♥ ♥

Astro have become known for their sweet Bubblegum concepts, and HIDESEEK is no exception! Released in 2016, this song was the title track for the groups first mini album and is both bright and light-heartening to listen to.

The MV shows the members constantly running into the same girl, despite living in seemingly different worlds. The music video gives off a fun and youthful vibe, and the playful choreo is one of our favourite parts!

Overall HIDESEEK is an excellent addition to the Bubblegum K-Pop genre and ASTRO deserve all the love in the world!

7. Friday by IU

Bubblegum Score: ♥ ♥ ♥

Unlike other songs on this list, Friday by IU doesn’t give us that sweetness overload feeling like many other Bubblegum K-Pop songs do – this track is a bit more soft, almost reminding us of cotton candy!

Together with HISTORY‘s Jang Yi Jeong, IU gives off cosy and warm vibes with her kind voice and smooth guitar playing – making Friday an easy to listen to song that’s perfect for winter! Released in 2013, the music video fro Friday is simple but elegant – featuring IU and Yi Jeong acting as a couple spending some causal time together.

If you need to calm down or relax with some soothing music, then we highly recommend Friday!

8. Love Scenario by iKON

Bubblegum Score: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

When iKON released their MV for Love Scenario at the beginning of this year, we could not get enough of it – any chance we had, we would listen to this song without ever getting tired of it! And we’re not the only ones who think so, since the song was No.1 on the charts for over two weeks.

Singing about a love that sadly had to come to an end, Love Scenario is a hip-hop track that goes against the usual music rule we have seen for the past few years – rather than leading up to one massive beat drop, this song rises and then falls to a bubbly, mellow tune, which is actually rather refreshing to listen to! Plus the use of the cowbell, which you don’t hear that often in K-Pop songs, was an added a nice touch to the overall tone of the song.

The MV for Love Scenario has quickly become one of our favourite iKON videos. Everything from the way it’s filmed and the bold aesthetic colours to the on point dance moves is perfect to us, and you can tell the member’s had fun together whilst filming!

9. ADORE U by Seventeen

Bubblegum Score: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

We actually had quite a bit of difficulty picking which Seventeen song to feature on this month’s chart, since they have so many songs that fit into the Bubblegum category. But in the end, we realised there was only one true choice – and that’s none-other than ADORE U!

When they debuted with this song in 2015, Seventeen definitely made an impact on K-Pop’s Bubblegum genre, and they haven’t stopped since. Kicking off the track is a heavy bass line and guitar which flows throughout song as the melody builds, which is accompanied by the amazing harmonisation of every member!

As for the music video, every single second is filled with sweet concepts and cute dance moves, making it an absolute joy to watch! ADORE U will forever be a classic Seventeen song for us and we never get tired of watching each member shine in the music video.

10. Secret by WJSN (Cosmic Girls)

Bubblegum Score: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Lastly we’re finishing off with Secret by Cosmic Girls (WJSN) – a song that is beautiful to listen to and even more beautiful to watch!

The song itself light and bubbly, and if we had to pick a sweet snack to describe it we would probably have to go with ice cream – since the tune is cool ,the member’s voices are smooth and the song overall gives us chills!

Secret’s music video has to be one of our favourites on this list – with it’s multiple concepts (from space to witches), aesthetic landscapes and never-ending charm, it is almost like watching a mini film.
