London Korean Festival 2017 – CONCERT REVIEW

Although the event took place on the 8th July, we are still buzzing about it! In partnership with Feel Korea, the London Korean Festival was able to host a K-Pop concert. Groups KNK, SNUPER, EXID & HIGHLIGHT were all performing in Olympia, London, along with the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Team who were the opening act. We were lucky enough to get a ticket to this event, so keep reading to find out more!

After a long, LONG time queuing outside the venue, we finally made it inside and immediately ran to get as close to the stage as we could. While we waited for the hall to fill up, we watched the music videos of all the groups performing as well as promotional material on the UK and South Korea cultural exchange in anticipation. We just couldn’t wait for the show to finally kick off!

As soon as the lights went down, we had a short performance from the Taekwondo Team, who showed incredibly impressive moves and skill. We were particularly impressed by the younger members of the team, as it takes a lot of talent and training to keep up with the more senior members.

Then, KNK came up on stage and the atmosphere was absolutely electric. They performed all their classic numbers such as ‘U’ and ‘Back Again’, which everyone was singing along to throughout. All the members looked amazing as well, each of them wearing dark blue suits and white dress shirts. We hope the rookie group was happy with how well received they were by UK fans!

Next up was SNUPER, and this 6 member boy band certainly did not disappoint! What we loved about them most was the way they interacted with the fans. They even invited a lucky fan onto the stage to be serenaded! Our favourite song that they performed was their latest release ‘Back:Hug’, which was packed full of energy and summery vibes.

When EXID walked onto the stage, it felt like every person in the room started screaming. We were in awe of their stage presence as they completely nailed their songs ‘Hot Pink’, ‘Night Rather Than Day’, ‘Ah Yeah’ and of course the legendary ‘Up & Down’, all of which had full audience participation! Their bright outfits and adorable behaviour totally stole the show.

Finally, it was time for Highlight to perform. Even though the concert was drawing to a close, the energy levels in the room were still very high! We loved how they performed both new songs like ‘Plz Don’t Be Sad’ and ‘Calling You’, as well as older songs from when they were called BEAST, such as ‘YeY’ and ‘Good Luck’.

And of course, there were lots of special performances throughout the night as well! A moving solo from EXID’s Hyerin, a sweet rendition of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ by KNK and of course, a sensational collaboration between SNUPER and the UK K-Pop dance team ‘LOKO’ made fantastic additions to the concert as well.

Overall, we had an incredible experience at the concert and thought it was definitely worth every penny! With so many acts and performances, it was a wonder how the organisers fit everything in just over two hours! If you aren’t familiar with these artists, we highly recommend listening to their music. This being said, there’s nothing better than hearing them perform live and in person!
