Interested in Korean programming? If so, keep reading for some Korean shows that we recommend watching this month!
- Mamamoo x GFriend’s Showtime: Both Mamamoo and GFriend are hilarious and up-and-coming girl groups on the Kpop scene. Now they are being featured on Showtime (being the first series to feature two groups) which follows them as they do some activities, go on outings etc. We really enjoyed the bungee jump/haunted house episode in which they were challenged to determine who was the biggest ‘scaredy-cat’ in each group (Mamamoo are so good at teasing each other, which contrasts with how gently supportive GFriend are when it comes to doing something they are afraid of!) Other highlights include covering each other’s hit song and concept and having some downtime when each group travelled to the USA. You are guaranteed to laugh out loud!
- Idol Star Athletics Championships: A programme where Kpop groups participate in sports events, such as archery, gymnastics, sprint, relay and many more. Some of them really surprise with how good they are at certain sports! A staple programme normally shown around Chuseok time in South Korea.
- Girl Spirit: A reality competition show which highlights some overlooked singers in girl groups. There is usually a broad theme given for each performance to help focus the contestants’ song choice. This show helps bring attention to some of those groups that have fallen under the radar in the Kpop music scene, such as Uji (Bestie) and Bo-hyung (Spica) who have amazing vocals, as well as emphasizing unique vocal colour (Sojung of Ladies Code has a very emotive and slightly husky voice) and some great arrangements of other songs-check out Oh My Girl’s Seunghee’s rendition of Shinee’s ‘Dream Girl’ that was merged with parts of Oh My Girl’s own song ‘Windy Day’-you will be pleasantly surprised!.
