What’s Going On This Month? – OCTOBER

With the start of a new month comes lots of exciting events, and this month is no exception! Keep reading to find out what special activities are taking place in South Korea in October this year:

4th-6th October – Chuseok (추석) Festival

Arguably one of the most important festivals in the South Korean calendar is Chuseok, or Korean Thanksgiving. It’s a three day public holiday in the country with the aim of celebrating the hard work of Korean citizens over the past year as well as helping strengthen familial relationships. Over the course of the three days, Koreans traditionally pay a visit to their ancestral home and the graves of deceased family members as well as enjoying a massive fest altogether! If you’re in Korea during Chuseok, it’ll be an experience that you’ll never forget. Bear in mind however that a lot of museums, tourist sites and even shops are likely to be closed during Chuseok.

12th – 21st October – Busan International Film Festival (BIFF)

Right in the South of the country is bustling Busan, where one of the biggest and most important film festivals in Asia is taking place. Over 10 days, hundreds of films from countries in every corner of the world are screened in the Busan Cinema Center. The event is particularly popular with the younger generations, and we love how the festival focuses on showcasing the films of first-time directors.

26th – 29th October – Jeonju Bibimbap Festival 전주비빔밥축제

Are you absolutely in love with Korean food? Then this is the perfect festival for you! Enjoy Korea’s rich culture in the city of Jeonju while you taste lots of delicious bibimbap that’s been made by some of the best chefs. What’s more – admission is free!

So there we have it! As you can see, October is full of all different kinds of festivals. So if you find yourself in South Korea this month, why not check out one of these events?
